Frequently Asked Questions

  • Of course! As part of our bespoke service we can consult creatively with you, which allows us to find the best possible solution to make sure that your project speaks loud and clear to your audience. If you’ve got an idea of what you want to say but you’re not sure how best to say it we’ll look at all of the different ways a message can be interpreted and find a creative solution to the problem. You can think of us as a helpful local hardware store; sometimes you go there knowing exactly what you need to finish a project, sometimes you go there to get help in finding a solution. We can be that helpful one-stop-shop that will find the best result for you.

  • The benefit of having a bespoke service is that we make sure everything we create is made specifically for you and your unique needs.

A cheaper option will provide you with results but those results may cause you to go back and end up spending more money after wasting your time. Many cheap options also take up a lot of your personal time by putting the workload on you as the creator, whereas we do everything in a collaborative way. Right from the get go we make sure we really understand your needs, we work within your deadlines, your timeframes and we also collaborate with you to make sure that you’re across everything all of the way through. The outcome then is a completely unique piece of work that you truly love.

  • As Artists creating new work we automatically own the copyright for the images we produce however this doesn’t restrict how you can use what we provide to you.

Our goal is to provide you with a quality output that’s effective and useful in your organisation and for your communications; we do this by giving you a perpetual exclusive license of use. This means that you can use the work we provide you with for as long as you like and we include some stipulations that make it easy for you to know what to do if later on you need to alter the products at all. We understand that every project is different so at the end of the day if owning the copyright is still something important to your project we do offer copyright buy-out options as well.

  • Yes absolutely! If we’re working with a return client then we’ll already have their branding and set up done but otherwise each new job is a completely clean slate ripe with possibility and potential. Illustration, animation and any other kind of visual communication shouldn’t be produced with just a cookie-cutter model, each project needs to be tackled in different ways so that it can resonate with its specific audience.

At Patch Creative every project will have an original scope so that it will never look like someone else’s product. Whilst it may have a little ‘Patch flair’, we’ll create new characters, use unique colours and specific line-work, individualised illustration and animation styles, distinct lettering and more to generate an outcome designed exclusively for you and your business.

  • Every project is different and therefore has a different timeline. Really, a project depends on a lot of things; it can depend on what type of service it is, the complexity of the project, how many feedback rounds we do and how quickly you provide that feedback. So in reality, an illustration could take twenty-four hours or twenty-four days depending on many interconnecting factors.

With the scope of what we produce we need to keep it within a timeframe constraint, both for your requirements and to make sure we’re producing great work for you and the rest of our clients. As a basic rule, bespoke illustration work can take between two days to two weeks and animation will be a minimum of three weeks and generally a maximum of two months just depending on what’s needed. Graphic recording is done in real time; so that happens instantly on the day of your event and graphic design can be from 24 hours to three months depending on complexity.

  • Graphic recording captures a presentation or conversation using hand-drawn illustrations and lettering. All happening in real time this process allows the audience to connect with a visual snapshot that lives on long after the event.

If we’re doing a live graphic recording for your conference or workshop, we’ll arrive nice and early on the day to make sure we get all of our set up organised and tested efficiently.

While your speakers are presenting to the group, we capture our graphic recordings with an iPad that is projected onto a large screen for all participants to see or via pen on foam board (your preference!). We have laptops set up with Google ready to show us any maps of regions that are mentioned, the correct spelling of speakers names and image references for anything we haven’t drawn before. We listen to the flow of the conversation and with ten years of experience we’re able to efficiently identify the key points we’ll need to pull out and capture. Participants can see it all being done in real time as we’re drawing, so it’s a great way for them to really absorb the information - especially for the visual learners in the room. Afterwards you’ll receive a file structure that has all the captures coloured, branded, ready to go and you usually get that at the end of the day (pending full scope of your project). That can be used for internal communications, it can be printed out and displayed in-house or really however you want to then use it to remind people of your event and the information shared.

Thanks to modern technology and the rise of video conferencing we’re able to offer graphic recording as a service for online meetings and workshops, too. It’s a very similar process to the live events and you’ll receive the same final products at the end of the day. We will dial in to the meeting and your attendees can watch the live capture happening in real-time, which is a great way to add something visually captivating to your online event.

  • Well this is the business that we’re in, the business of taking complex ideas and refining them into single images or animations that tell engaging stories.

  • We use things like hand-drawn characters, unique theming, captivating storytelling and excellent graphic design to eliminate the jargon and make it something that everyone can digest.

It’s very easy to get caught up in the details of an idea and want to add more and more information thinking that it is going to make the message clearer - but unfortunately, it doesn’t. However, we can take a concept that has been overcooked and find ways to refine it so that it’s appealing and easy to absorb, whether that’s through illustration, animation, graphic design or graphic recording; we will find the right way to convey that message.

  • Let’s have a chat! We would love to hear about your project and what you’re trying to achieve - that’s the first step. We love hearing from people in all different industries who have interesting concepts and ideas; whether you’re an individual who wants to do something new with your passion project or you’re a large organisation looking to refresh your communications.
