Arup
From their engineering prowess that helped to build arguably one of the world’s most iconic modern buildings, The Sydney Opera House, to their acoustic consulting on a futuristic oasis, Jewel in Changi Airport, Arup are consistently at the forefront of impeccable design and engineering for our ever-evolving world. To support their talented workforce and encourage them to always strive for excellence the Arup University program provides world-class professional development and significant opportunities to learn, share and explore with a firm focus on the future.
When planning a multiple-day intensive workshop for new employees in the university program, Arup approached Patch Creative to bring our creative consulting know-how in and develop some fresh and innovative exercises to help the participants step outside of their comfort zone, think differently. Arup knew that they needed some form of graphic support and visual context so we looked at their branding and the format for the workshop sessions based around the UN Sustainability Goals and we walked them through how our services could align with what that and facilitate a fantastic outcome.
Creative Journey
To kick-start the creative journey we ran a session with sixty participants working on whiteboards learning a thing or two about graphic recording and how to think visually. By the end they had learned a whole new skill, had a lot of laughs and created a set of illustrations and icons that they used to tell the story of their ‘best holiday ever’. In addition to that they actually had to produce a video on the spot and we provided a range of illustrated assets that they could then drop in to the video to help them communicate their message.
Over the next couple of days as we were doing the live graphic capture of the rest of the workshop we could see these artistic visual recording skills being used by participants to enhance all of their other activities. Being on-site for the whole workshop allowed us to personally witness the impact of our work and the excited engagement of participants, which was a great reward for our team.
