Engage

By investigating shared human insights and pairing them with innovative design and technology Engage are helping organisations to deliver experiential learning opportunities and exciting showcases across the globe while helping to inspire and connect people in impactful ways.

Patch Creative were approached by Engage to deliver illustration and installation design to be featured at the World Government Summit in Dubai. The summit, hosted by the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, was aimed at showcasing the most innovative and socially beneficial initiatives that world governments are operating. We were very excited to be asked to illustrate the showcase piece for a project that aligned so well with our own ethical ideals around environmental and ecological issues, the Peruvian Environment Ministry’s Gallinazo Avisa initiative. With the genesis of this project born out of the 2014 United Nations Climate Change conference in Lima this initiative of the Peruvian government and USAid harnessed the power of nature by sending out a stealthy team of Black Vultures (Gallinazo’s) with GoPro’s to discover and record the locations of illegal rubbish dumping in and around Lima. Through engagement with local communities and embracing the natural talents of these otherwise misunderstood creatures the scheme was able to tackle the ecological and environmental issues brought about by illegal dumping while halting the further spread of noxious diseases through deadly bacteria.

Creating an illustration to showcase this incredible initiative opened up the opportunity for us to deep dive on research into these amazing animals and how to specifically draw their form and features in detail. The outcome was a 3D lenticular drawing with the image morphing from that of the vulture to a stylised rubbish pile as the viewer moved through the exhibition, which was a spatially unique way to present the illustration within the exhibition and highlight the innovative work of the Peruvian project.
